Whoa, Nelly.

The little white area on her leg is where they put her IV.
As I mentioned at the end of my post about Boykins' spay surgery, everything went just fine. I picked her up late in the afternoon last Friday, and she was definitely still burning off the anesthetic. Her reaction to seeing me was definitely like her usual enthusiastic wiggle, but more like a slo-mo version of it.
We got home and after a quick pit-stop in the front yard, we rested on the couch together. She pretty much slept the whole night. We had some friends over for dinner, and even with some hullabaloo in the kitchen, she was pretty much konked out.
So tired....So very tired...
Saturday morning rolled around, and you'd never know Boykins had undergone surgery the previous day. She was the definition of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. We got her out of her crate for her early walk, and she was rarin' to go.
What we're learning is that even with a relatively mellow puppy like Boykins, it's really hard to keep a puppy quiet. As the vet pointed out, she'd undergone major abdominal surgery. We're supposed to keep her as inactive as possible until September 29! Since she doesn't seem to feel anything, she's expecting to be able to do all her normal stuff, like trips to the park to run around, chasing the ball around the floor, just go nuts and tear around the condo...But she can't. It's especially hard for her not to go up and down the stairs on the front porch or down the stairs in the house. (She can now go down the inside stairs on her own; she can't go up.)
Why can't I run free?
She's been pretty good at following our lead and keeping mellow, but she's had her lapses. This morning, for example, she just couldn't keep the energy contained any longer, and after coming in from her morning walk, started tearing all over the apartment. Her ears went back, her eyes went wide, and she just went nuts. I literally had to throw myself across the hallway to block her and get her to settle down. (Our attempts to just catch her were akin to kids trying to catch a greased pig at the county fair!)
Let's just hope she doesn't pop a stitch!
