Puppy Kindergarten - Progress is Made!

It's hard work going to school!

Boykins has been to two Puppy Kindergarten classes so far, and it looks like we're making real progress! She will now sit and stay (mostly) on cue, even though we're weaning her off treats as we do it. She's such a little smarty-pants!

This is where the warm air comes out.

One of the best parts of Puppy Kindergarten is that Boykins has a chance to interact with lots of different dogs (all sizes, shapes, colors), and it seems she really enjoys this! (I'm sure she gets bored with Quan and me.) It's funny to see her try to engage the other puppies in the class. Mostly, she sits and watches, looking for a pair or small group she can try to break into. It's like she's this nerdy third-wheel...She sees a couple of dogs having fun, runs over, tries to engage them with her play moves ("hey guys, what are you doing? are you having fun? can i play? no? okay"). Then she trots back over to Quan and me, looks for another pair or group, and the whole thing starts again. She'll also just run up to some other dog, throw out a couple of invitations to play, then dart off, ears back, eyes wild. She slows down pretty quickly when she notices that nobody is chasing her!

A good spot for a nap.

Weather in Boston was pretty hot this week. Thank goodness we have the luxury of central air conditioning! On Tuesday, Quan and I took her with us to our ultimate frisbee game, and she did a great job. We tested out a stake/lead so we could keep her in one location on the sideline. Usually, one of us was there to keep her company and give her water, but she seemed okay just exploring a bit and sitting on her blanket with her toys. We freed her from her lead after our game finished, and she really enjoyed the chance to run wild with our friends. Of course, after we play a full game, we're all salted up, so she really likes us then!

The police shot. "Miss, do you know anything about a small pig who has been brutalized near or on its squeaker?"
